Relationship with Food

One thing I have always (always) struggled with is nutrition. I love food. Usually really bad foods. BUT who doesn't? Society has taught us to love these foods that just sit around our midsection. And with these foods on every corner, it is very easy to put them into our diets. This fast paced world we are living in gives us the "pass" to eat whatever we can get at that moment.

Last year, I let you in on my journey with fitness and food. And truth be told, I did not finish strong at the end of the year (and I think most people end the year this way too). The holidays just rob me of all my will power. And I started 2018 with a girls trip to San Antonio leaving my jeans and skirts feeling extra tight. But I was feeling so poorly about my diet that I came back and immediately started the Advocare 10 Day Cleanse. Tomorrow I will finish my 10 day cleanse.

Cleanses and diets are always a great way to kick start your nutrition but it's how you turn this into a lifestyle that matters the most. And for most people, you do your diet (or cleanse) and immediately go back to your old habits. That is why this year, I decided it was time to make a serious change about my eating habits and nutrition and became a Nutrition Specialist through ACE Fitness. With this I am able to give you the resources you need to know about nutrition. It is still recommended that you go to a Registered Dietitian to get a meal plan for your body. But what I have learned is that there are many resources to help you understand your relationship with food.

Food is fuel and not just something to make you feel good. Even though while you may be eating that doughnut you are feeling happy and complete. Your body is saying, "hey, we just got a crap ton of carbs. What do you think we can do with them?" And you have the ability to tell your body WHAT to do with them. You can choose to eat that doughnut and sit on your couch watching television or you can eat that doughnut and go workout. Your body will then use those carbs to help build more muscle if you give it the right tools to do so.

I am happy to say my relationship with food is much healthier this year. Yes, I still enjoy indulging in all my favorite (not so good for me) treats. But I find my body craving those healthy options more and more to make myself feel better. And throughout the year, I'll be sharing some of my favorite recipes that are being added into our weekly meals. If you have any requests, let me know and I would love to try them out and give you my feedback.

Thanks for always following along on my roller coaster with food. It's always something I have battled with but as I start to get older, I'm hoping the dips are not as big than they used to be and I can find a way to navigate this fast food driven life.
